Sisters, Carol & Sharon, and their dedicated team, have been bringing their delicious Middle Eastern cuisine & hospitality to Sydney for 13 years.
Almond Bar is an award winning restaurant operating since 2007. It serves authentic, as well as modern Middle Eastern dishes, delicious cocktails and a diverse range of wines in a very friendly and comfortable environment.
It all started with a dream that owner Carol Salloum had of bringing her family's love of food & people together for all of Sydney to enjoy. She approached her great cook of a sister Sharon and the rest is history.
Carol & Sharon, as well as their two brothers George & Steven, grew up in a traditional Syrian household where hospitality was their life. It started the moment an unexpected guest entered their home. No matter what the circumstances or financial situation of their parents, they taught their children to be hospitable & always welcome those that came to their door. Hospitality is in their blood, not just a job.
The Salloum household regularly had a container filled with mixed nuts - amongst many other snacks - for the visitors that would drop in for a coffee or drink. Each of the four siblings would secretly open the container and eat the almonds until there were none left. All seemed to get away with it & no one ever owned up.
Everyone at Almond Bar has always tried to make all their customers feel at home & experience the passion that they have. The family is always involved and customers have become family too.
Sharon Salloum has produced an International Gourmand Award for Best Cook Book by Female as well as Best Middle Eastern Cook Book. Her passion for her food and culture are evident in her cooking, her classes & the tours she runs for Gourmet Safari.
Carol and Sharon, along with an amazing team are currently working to educate and train Syrian refugees; to find employment for them; and help them feel welcome in the country that they & their family call home.
