WHAT IS MULUKHIYAH?
Ask any Middle Eastern person that grew up with mulukhiyah and they will tell you that it is one of their favourite dishes. There was and still is great excitement when we know that mum has made mulukhiyah for family dinner. It is something that cannot be explained.
Known in English as either jute leaves, mulukhiyah is a leaf that is only available seasonally, is picked off the stalk then stewed with coriander, garlic, lemon. It is normally served with rice, grilled bread, onion and, depending on the region, various meats. The Egyptians cut the leaves very finally, the Lebanese chop the leaves coursely and the Syrians, somewhere in between.
Our very first Mulukhiyah Night was thoroughly enjoyed and we had wonderful feedback. So here we are again 5 years on.
